About the Artist

When I was a child, I opened an encyclopedia, saw beautiful paintings, and said 'I want to do that!' Many hours of painting in my parents dimly lighted basement ensued. As a teen and then adult, I painted off and on. Only in recent years have I begun to find my own voice, to discover the things I want to explore in paint. In September of 2024, after some burnout and bouts with depression, I left my full-time accounting/bookkeeping job to pursue my painting as a career.

Both representational and abstract styles are important to me, each a different language or dialect. In all my work, I strive for beauty, balance, and harmony. My painting practice is a spiritual vocation. In a world full of brokenness, loneliness, and anxiety, art offers consolation and points us to the permanent, towards Truth, Goodness, and Beauty. And, the very tactile nature of paint, the physical act of mark-making, are potent reminders of the goodness of the created world, so often marred by the insatiate desires of industry and consumerism.

Nature, classical music, color and texture, light and form, the sea, the American southwest, birdsong and flight, poetry, the scent of honeysuckle, and the changing seasons all provide ample inspiration for my art. Life is a pulsing, varied adventure of discovery. Discovery of what is true, good, and beautiful. And what better way to explore, to celebrate the richness of all this, than with a paintbrush?
